2004 All-Team Trips

3/18 - New Haven Symphony Orchestra

Thanks to the generousity of the New Haven Symphony Orchestra and its Director Michael MacLeod, we took 36 people (five staff, seven parents, and 24 young people) to see "Prodigious Talents," at Woosley Hall at Yale. The concert included a 12 yearold soloist and a 13 year old composer's world premiere. Below are writings from youth about their experience:

"The songs they are playing feels like you can really think about your life, just like in the movies they play music to show you what is about to happen. And if I had a story to tell the title would be "a day at the symphony orchestra." And I'm thinking I should come to the orchestra more often to learn more."

Music

by LaQuaya (age 10)

Music is everything.
Music is freedom and life.
It gives everyone a chance to learn a chance to explore.
Music is apart of life.
Everywhere you go you hear music.
And its also what you feel.
You may hear it but you also have to allow yourself to feel it.
Without music you have no power
and without power there is no energy
and without energy there is no life.
And music is the only thing that makes people happy.
And that is how music
makes me feel.
